As additional time has passed since the Heartbleed bug has been discovered, it’s become apparent that some hardware and mobile operating systems are also affected by this OpenSSL bug. Some firewalls, routers, and managed network switches are at risk too, as well as phones and tablets running Android 4.1.1.
You must wait for hardware manufacturers to update firmware and software for these affected devices. But don’t count on these manufactures to notify you; you must check yourself to see if your hardware is affected and if so if a patch is available. Visit each manufacturers’ website for information on your potentially-affected hardware. Windows, MacOS and iOS are unaffected by Heartbleed, but Android 4.1.1 on tablets and phones ARE affected by this bug. If you’re running Android 4.1.1 on any device, check frequently to see if a patch is ready yet for your device.
Here is a list of software affected by Heartbleed, and their status. This is not a complete list, but a list of popular services that are or were. And you might want to read Seven Myths about Heartbleed. And as always please contact me if you would like assistance with any of these concerns.
